Podcasts by their very nature are short and sharp, and it was Sykes’s desire to indulge in the now and lay out her thoughts in long-form writing that lead to this compilation, embracing the idea that readers are moving away from click-bait and seeking more in-depth coverage on the subjects that matter to them. Don’t wade in expecting just a light-on series of clever observations of life’s little anxieties – although there is some of that – but also diligently well-researched stories using multiple sources that she uses to come to some illuminating conclusions delivered with plenty of style.

Tackling subjects such as the cult of wellness, our obsession with ‘busyness’, the tsunami of choice, motherhood and millennials, Pandora is hitting the nail on the head with her assessments of these modern calamities. This book is brimming with witty conversation starters and “ah-ha” moments delivered in a way that feels like a conversation with a very old, and very well-read friend. I mean, this woman is shaping up to be the perfect dinner guest.

And as for coming to a conclusion as to whether we’re doing it right? Who knows. All we can do is ask the questions.
